Time To Hug

Game Summary

Negativity has spread throughout the village. Help Violet find all the Meansters and hug them to save the villagers. The Friendship Festival just won't be the same if everyone can't attend.

Controls

  • WASD / Arrows - Movement
  • Space Bar / Enter - Hug / Next Dialogue
  • Q - Quit

Hint

The Festival might look different depending on how many villagers you save.

Future Plans

I would like to add an options page. First, there needs to be quality of life things like volume control and the option to skip the opening cutscene. Additionally, it would be nice to have options to increase the difficulty level. For example: shorter time limit, more meansters, variable health, etc.

I never intended the Meansters to have static hiding places however time got the best of me, so there isn't much replay value currently.

I would like to expand/redo the village. Maybe add in elevation changes and, in general, make the world more appealing. Also, being able to enter the houses would be another dynamic to the hide and seek.

Redo the festival scene. It isn't really what I pictured currently, however I think it gets the point across.

Add more animation emotes. Add more sound effects.

Add controller support

I originally went into this solo thinking I could do everything. If it wasn't for Sam_TheBestFishy jumping in to help, this game wouldn't have any sound. She is the best teammate!

Game Background

This game was created for Pirate Software - Game Jam 14. Time to Hug is the first game I have ever made. I learned a lot and my daughter loves it so that is a huge win!

This is adorable! The "Yeah, wack 'em!" dialogue gave me a good laugh too :) Only thing I wished for was to be able to talk to the villagers after hugging them because  I wanted to get more into what this village was about and their reaction to a kid hugging them to make them feel better.
As an audio person I loved the music and sound! How it gets slower and pitched down as the time runs out and it gets darker was a nice touch. I actually went to answer a text for a second not noticing the timer and came back like "oh OH NO" because the audio was such a perfect cue for me that time was running out. The ukulele sounds like it was played and not a sample, which I really appreciate too.

Thanks so much for checking out our game and providing feedback!

I had originally wanted Violet to be able to talk to the villagers however time got the best of me. My idea was to have the villagers just give hints on another Meansters location; however, I love your idea of letting the interaction shape the villager as a person and give context to their relationship with Violet. Thank you!

The music was all performed and recorded by Sam_TheBestFishy, even the piano flourish when Meansters are hugged. I really can't thank her enough for coming in last minute to really make this game complete for the game jam. I am glad you enjoyed the slowing of the music. I was hoping to give some sense of urgency to our low stakes game.

This game is very cute. I enjoyed finding all of the Villigers and giving them hugs. very fun!
